Mayor's Congratulations

We were fortunate to have the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth,
Cllr Frank Jonas, record a special congratulations for the
CoPS Students!

Unloc's Official Welcome

One of Unloc‘s Directors, Ben Dowling, officially kicked off USVC day with his welcome! Including a guest appearance by Dr Nik Johnson, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

Workshop: Dealing With and Managing Change

Jessi led a workshop considering Dealing With and Managing Change,
of which the supporting slides are available here.

Council Consultations

As part of USVC day, we invite local Councils to utilise the gathering of the students;
Cambridge City Council, Cambridgeshire County Council and Portsmouth City Council
conducted consultations with their respective students, using the time to gain thoughts and
opinions on important matters to the council and community.

Here are some screenshots from the five sessions we had running simultaneously!

In Conversation With...: Student Voice

We were incredibly fortunate to be joined by two of the countries’ leading experts in Student Voice, David Hart and Derry Hannam, for In Conversation With where they discussed Student Voice and the importance of it, answering questions posed by the students themselves!

Energiser Activity

All of the students were tasked with taking interesting and creative screenshots in Breakout Groups…
here are some of the results!

Action Group Presentations

Each Action Group, led by their Action Group Leader (AGL), presented and shared all they had
done over the course of the year, using photos to visually demonstrate, whilst reflecting on what
the group were most proud of, what was a challenge they hadn’t anticipated, and if they could do
it all again, what would they do differently and improve upon.

It was brilliant to hear from each Action Group the hard work they had committed to their Student Forum
and improving their institution in various topics. Some of the Action Group topics looked at this year included: Careers Curriculum, Climate Change, Diversity Celebration, Eco-Friendly, Key Stage Three Homework, LGBTQIA+ Awareness, Mental Health, and Overcoming Lockdown and all it’s various challenges.

Gartic Phone Gifs

After the Action Group Presentations, the group went into Breakout Spaces and played ‘Gartic Phone’ –
a fun game introduced to Unloc by the Hills Road Action Group!

The students were tasked with starting a story using a phrase or sentence about something they’d heard from the presentations, then the next person had to draw what was written. The next would then receive the picture and try to guess what was originally written, and so on and so forth, culminating in some great drawings and a funny story – sometimes similar to the original starting phrase, but often wildly different as we’ve interpreted things in our own way!

Here are some examples in gif form to show the thread of each one:

If you fancy playing Gartic Phone yourself, the link is here!

An Introduction to Kooth (Website)

Karen Dawber, the Engagement Lead for Kooth, introduced Kooth and its’ website, showing how to access and utilise the different features available.

Little Blue Book of Sunshine (LBBoS)

The Little Blue Book of Sunshine is a useful resource about Mental Health.
You can access an e-version of the book here.

Please note: This is published as the ‘Portsmouth Edition’, but is applicable to students from any area.
